Vince Macaulay and Nhamo Shire partner on acquisition of NBL D1 side TVC

0 3

NBL Division 1 side Thames Valley Cavaliers has been acquired by Hoops Basket C.I.C., owned by Vince Macaulay.

Macaulay, a leading figure in British and London basketball and the founder of the London Lions basketball franchise, has partnered with Nhamo Shire, founder of the legendary Midnight Madness summer event and now the largest grassroots basketball league in London, the Community Basketball League (CBL), as they aim to “establish a robust pipeline from grassroots to elite-level competition” in the capital.

The acquisition of the club includes the men and women’s programmes, who both compete in Division 1.

“I’ve been deeply invested in London basketball for over three decades and have always believed in the importance of building a solid foundation rooted in community engagement,” said Macaulay, who is currently coaching in Germany with Artland Dragons.

“Equally crucial is providing a performance platform at the highest level of the English game. The opportunity to step in and support the Cavaliers, who have been a significant presence in top-tier basketball, aligned perfectly with our goals. This acquisition marks a new chapter, where we can integrate community-based development with elite performance opportunities.”

Shire has been a key figure in grassroots basketball, with the CBL now entering its 15th season, and included in this non-exclusive partnership is the growing network of basketball academies across the city under Shire’s London School of Basketball (LSB) program.

“It’s no secret that grassroots basketball in London has been my passion, from the early days of Midnight Madness, through to the LSB onto the CBL’s sustained success,” said Shire.

“Our focus has always been on improving the infrastructure of our game across the city. When the opportunity arose to collaborate with Vince and the Cavaliers on a project that’s organic and community-driven, it was a perfect fit. This partnership allows us to further enrich the performance pathways for our players and continue to build on the success we’ve achieved.”
