Say Goodbye To Zayden High

The UNC reserve has been taken off the team and is out of school too. But why?

When UNC announced a commitment from former Georgia Tech forward Tzyhaun Claude on August 16th, it just seemed odd.

Claude, who started at Morehead State before transferring to Western Carolina and then Tech, seemed kind of redundant. UNC has several bigs - Jalen Washington, Jae’Lyn Withers, James Brown, Ven-Allen Lubin and Zayden High.

Well, now it makes more sense, but with a bit of mystery because Zayden High has been “removed” from UNC’s roster and is no longer enrolled.

Inside Carolina reports that “multiple sources said High’s status had been in limbo for much of the offseason due to an off-the-court matter. The resolution for that situation ultimately was that he essentially serve a suspension from school and sit out the coming season.”

An off-the-court-matter? If it were anywhere but UNC, you’d think maybe there was some sort of academic issue, but everyone knows UNC hasn’t cared about academics in quite some time, something that was conclusively demonstrated during the devastating academic fraud scandal of the last decade. And it wasn’t just the scandal - it was the way UNC handled it that really demonstrated that athletics were far more important at UNC than academics.

Anyway, whatever happened, the current plan is for High to rejoin the team next season, but in the portal era, that might not happen.
