Filipowski Family Update

One of the weirdest things we saw this summer was not just that Kyle Filipowski fell to a second-round pick, but the stories that came out after to explain why: allegedly, NBA teams had reservations about his relationship with his fiancée, Caitlin Hutchinson.

Hutchinson is seven years older than Filipowski and his family found this concerning. Ultimately, Filipowski stopped communicating with his family over the issue but they haven’t said a whole lot about it.

His mother is talking a bit now and we learn here that she played college basketball with Hutchinson’s mother at Cal State Long Beach.

She also talks here about the toll that this whole business has taken on her and you have to feel bad about that as you would for any parent in her situation. She’s questioning her choices and, one expects, agonizing over all of it.

For his part, Filipowski seems to be settling in well with the Utah Jazz and is apparently happy. All anyone can really say is that we hope that at some point they can reconcile and put this behind them. It’s very sad.
