Dirk Nowitzki on Luka Doncic: 'He plays like a 35-year-old, wicked basketball IQ'

0 3
Talking about Luka Doncic, his former teammate shared what he was like looking at him in his last season in Dallas. “The transition was pretty smooth for him. I played with him for one year, my last one. We all didn’t know how good he was. He was the MVP of the EuroLeague, but that didn’t mean anything when he came to the NBA. From the first practice, I knew how he felt about the game”, the German phenomenon revealed. “He plays like a 35-year-old: wicked basketball IQ, what he sees on the floor I never saw. He knows how to handle big moments. We talk about basketball often, but I don’t need to mentor him anything. He’s an incredible talent and player. It was fun seeing him transitioning to the NBA. The start of something special, we’ve been witnessing greatness from him”, Dirk Nowitzki continued on Luka Doncic.

More on this storyline

Dirk Nowitzki also doesn’t see himself on a club’s or national team’s bench. “I don’t think I see myself coaching in my future. Things could change very quickly, but I don’t see myself as a team coach. I see more myself as an individual coach. I go to all the big tournaments with FIBA, we have a family office in Dallas. I’m learning new things and new interests. I will stick around basketball, not sure in which capacity”, he said. -via EuroHoops.net / August 23, 2024
A spectacular event is set to take place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, where a huge list of stars are set to play on the same court. The Goran Dragic Foundation is organizing a farewell event for Goran Dragic called The Night of the Dragon, where his friends and former teammates will compete on the same basketball court. An exhaustive list of stars who will show up at the event has been published by the event organizers, including Steve Nash, Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic, Dirk Nowitzki, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Luis Scola, Dejan Bodiroga, Predrag Danilovic, Nikola Vucevic, Rasho Nesterovic, and others. Hall of Famer Chris Bosh will also attend the event, but he will not step onto the court. -via BasketNews / August 18, 2024
Dragic was actually familiar with Doncic from a very young age since he was a teammate with Luka’s father Sasa. “When I was 15 years old I signed my first professional contract,” Dragic said. “And you know who my mentor on that team was? Sasa Doncic, Luka Doncic’s father. When we had a game or practice, Luka who was just a kid, would be there, mopping the floors and everything. In 2017 playing for the first time with him and now he’s an NBA superstar. It’s the circle of life.” -via EuroHoops.net / August 20, 2024
Damian Lillard names his current favorite players: I’m gonna go with Anthony Edwards. I think everybody is super high on him right now but I like him because of his energy, like the swag about him is authentic, and he got the game to go with it. So I’m gonna go with Anthony Edwards. I’m gonna go with Ja Morant. He got into some trouble so I think people kind of turned off to him a little bit but I mean I know what I’m looking at. Luka Doncic, I’m leaving somebody out… Joker and Giannis. That’s my five right now. -via YouTube / August 20, 2024
When the comparison with Luka Doncic was brought to the table, he shared the same opinion. “I agree. Luka [Doncic] is a killer too”, the two-time NBA Champion with the Houston Rockets commented about the Slovenian phenomenon. -via EuroHoops.net / August 19, 2024
