What an amazing life

World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War all have complete memorials in D.C.It’s taken a long time, but the U.S. memorial to World War I, rendered by renowned sculptor Sabin Howard, will open soon.

Good thing, since that war ended in 1918.

Want a mind-blower?

Sister Jean Schmidt, the famous Loyola of Chicago fan, was born the year after the Armistice took effect.

She was 21 when World War II started, 44 when President Kennedy was assassinated, 50 when Neal Armstrong set foot on the moon, 73 when Christian Laettner hit The Shot and 82 on 9/11.

On Wednesday, Sister Jean turns an amazing 105. She’s still vital, very sharp and still a big fan of college basketball in general and the Loyola Ramblers in particular.

There’s no way to be sure of this, but she may be the oldest fan of college basketball in the world.

If you have time Wednesday, please consider hopping on X to wish her a happy 105th (you’ll probably never get another chance to wish someone a happy 105th, right?).

We mentioned that she’s really sharp - look at her tweet back at Dave Portnoy if you have any questions about that - and we’re sure she’d appreciate some cake day vibes.

The world is full of awful people, so let’s take this occasion to salute someone who is one of the best of us.
