Vernon Maxwell on Drazen Petrovic: 'He was a killer like Luka Doncic'

Vernon Maxwell: ‘Oh boy, Petrovic. That motherf*cker was something else, man. God bless you. I used t tell Rudy Tomjanovich ‘treat this motherf*cker like you treat Michael Jordan.’ When he come out the game bring my ass out the game, when he come to the goddamn table let me meet him at the table. I don’t want nobody else guard this motherf*cker… He was a killer. Q. They kind of compare him with Luka Doncic. Maxwell: I agree, Luka is a killer too.

Vernon Maxwell: I was on cocaine in college and I was on marijuana, I smok marijuana still today but and I was an alcoholic too in college. I did all three of those drugs. For me to make it coming out of there… I mean it was dangerous for me to stay in Gainesville but I knew I couldn’t leave Gainesville. It was a it was like a double-edged sword like I couldn’t leave and I needed to leave. I needed to get away from that. I decided to stay in that sh*t. I went to Florida and I’m still the all-time leading scorer at the University of Florida. Kids today they don’t stay in school long enough to do what I did. Back in the day when I came out you did four years. The one-and-done thing wasn’t heard of. -via YouTube / August 19, 2024
Vernon Maxwell: The media changed that, they started calling me Mad Max and everybody jumped on. People would say my name, would say Vernon and I wouldn’t even turn around… The white folks changed my name, just like they did to Kunta Kinte. -via YouTube / August 17, 2024
Vernon Maxwell on Anfernee Hardaway: Penny was a problem, one of the first 6-9, 6-8 point guards we have ever seen. He was a problem. When they put LiL Penny out there they kind of f*cked him up. He should have left Little Penny in the damn background. He got bought in all that, you get caught up some times, you get caught up in that sh*t instead of doing your job. But yeah Penny was a problem. -via YouTube / August 17, 2024
The 1992 Summer Olympics is often cited as the big bang for international basketball because of the star power of the Dream Team. I hadn’t quite realized how shallow the global talent pool was until I dug into the rosters for the 1992 Olympic squads. Here’s what I found: Only one team, Croatia, boasted multiple players who was actively playing in the NBA in the summer of 1992, and they only sported two such players, Drazen Petrovic and Stojko Vrankovic. Three others on the roster — Toni Kukoc, Dino Radja and Zan Tabak — would come to the NBA later. -via The Finder / July 31, 2024
