Joel Embiid did not practice on eve of semifinals against Serbia
Joel Embiid didn’t practice for Team USA on Wednesday, as the Americans prepare for Serbia in the semifinals of the 2024 Olympics on Thursday. Team USA’s coach Steve Kerr says they held the center out as a precaution as he battles an ankle injury.

In the quarterfinals, Serbia made a historic comeback from 24 points down to beat Australia in overtime. They were plus-17 with Jokic in the game and minus-12 in the seven minutes he sat. Those numbers are why Kerr is speculating Nikola Jokic just might not sit — or perhaps only for brief moments — as Serbia looks to maximize its chance to pull the upset. “I guess we’ll be ready for that,” said Joel Embiid, who is likely to get the start against Jokic. “If that’s what they think they have to do to try to beat us, then they won’t hesitate to do that.” -via ESPN / August 7, 2024
