Gordon Hayward launches film distribution company after retiring from NBA

0 1
Gordon Hayward, who first rose to national prominence with a 2010 run to the NCAA championship game and has since played for four NBA teams, is now a free agent in the truest sense of the term. And he has exclusively revealed to IndieWire that his next step is playing a more active role in his and partner Simon Hacker‘s production company, Whiskey Creek. That now includes the launch of a distribution arm, as announced on Thursday, with the intent to theatrically release independent films.

First thing I think of when it comes to Gordon Hayward is this feature on his barber/haircut from the Jazz days.

No matter what Utah Jazz fans think of July 4, 2017, Gordon Hayward was a special special basketball player that season. It was a pleasure covering him and that Jazz team that came into its own. I wish he had five more seasons at that level. Happy retirement. – 12:26 PM

Gordon Hayward retirement today comes on the 10th anniversary of Paul George’s compound fracture while playing for Team USA.
Same draft class of 2010, back to back picks. Hayward suffered similar injury 3 years later.

What do you make of Gordon Hayward’s career?
For such an accomplished player, it kind of leaves a bad taste, right?

One of the first big events I covered live was Butler-Duke Final Four. Got to see it courtside too. What could have been had Gordon Hayward’s half-court shot actually miraculously banked in? (definitely wouldn’t have hit deadline). Best to Gordon Hayward on his retirement. – 10:10 AM

After 14 NBA seasons, Gordon Hayward is retiring. Hayward, 34, was a 2017 NBA All-Star in Utah and played for the Jazz, Celtics, Hornets and Thunder across his career. He was the No. 9 pick in the 2010 Draft after starring at Butler. pic.twitter.com/VrzfA5TrT79:59 AM

More on this storyline

“I’m open, and we are open to all kinds of different avenues: stories that my kids will enjoy, stories my wife and I will go enjoy, stories that me and the boys will go enjoy,” Hayward said. “We’ve got a lot of stuff planned out to hit all three of those, so we’re open to do a lot of different things.” -via IndieWire / August 1, 2024
“It’s hard to leave something that I’ve been doing for so long and that I’ve obviously loved. I don’t think anyone’s ever truly ready to retire from the game,” Hayward told IndieWire. “But for me personally, I felt like it was just time. I’ve got a family that’s all starting to grow up really fast before my eyes. I’ve got four kids. Just the ability to be able to hang out more with them, go to all their events, be more around was a huge factor for me.” -via IndieWire / August 1, 2024
