Lauri Markkanen wants to remain with the Jazz?

Tony Jones ( @Tjonesonthenba ) on ESPN700 on when Lauri will sign his extension: “I would expect him to sign on Aug. 7th, or after Aug 6th. Lauri doesn’t want to be traded so… I expect him to do it after Aug 6th so there’s no trade talk this year” “I don’t even think him signing on Aug 6th is even an option. We’re almost 100% trending towards him signing on Aug 7th.” “Lauri has really taken to Utah. His family has taken to Utah. Obviously the Jazz can trade him between now and Aug 6th, and Lauri knows that, but Lauri has forged a really close relationship to Will Hardy. And Will has really found a way to unlock his career” “And Lauri really recognizes that and appreciates that, and wants to be a part of the rebuild.” “From the Jazz perspective… Lauri is 27. His game is not predicated on athleticism… His game should age well. Meaning, the Jazz are fully confident that Lauri will still be this version of Lauri, or very close to it, the next time the Jazz are, in fact, good.”

The Jazz will not consider trading Lauri Markkanen to the Warriors in any scenario unless Brandin Podziemski is included, per @EricPincus (bleacherreport.com/articles/10129…).

More on this storyline

Evan Sidery: The Jazz are a potential team to monitor for Brandon Ingram, per @cclark_13 (podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fro…). If Utah signs Lauri Markkanen to a new long-term contract in August, they could pivot to a win-now move acquiring Ingram. pic.twitter.com/C4QsUhPTt8 -via Twitter @esidery / July 28, 2024
Evan Sidery: The Jazz have $30.2 million in available cap space, and they’re required to hit a salary floor within the CBA. Utah must add another $14+ million in salary before the season begins. Agreeing to a new deal with Lauri Markkanen via renegotiate-and-extend would accomplish this. pic.twitter.com/EDjeASTxjs -via Twitter @esidery / July 27, 2024
Tim McMahon on Lauri Markkanen: The Jazz I don’t believe are shopping him but if you give them an offer they can’t refuse they would take it. There’s been nothing close to an offer they can’t refuse. Now, then we’ve got this situation where like I said he is eligible to sign a contract extension that they can use that cap space on. He’s eligible to sign that August 6. If he signs it August 6, exactly six months from that date is the trade deadline. So he can be traded this year if he signs in August 6. If he signs it August 7th or any day after that he cannot be traded this year. (…) I will walk from Park City to Salt Lake City to cover a game next year if Lauri Markkanen signs the extension on August 6. If he signs that extension after August 6, he’s going to give himself what essentially is a one-year no-trade exception. -via YouTube / July 27, 2024
