GB Senior Women’s clash with Germany abandoned due to medical incident

0 0

Great Britain Senior Women’s friendly against Germany at the Copper Box, on Sunday, was abandoned following a medical emergency.

The Subway Summer Slam fixture was the first game with new head coach Anna Montanana at the helm, with GB trailing 54-43 at the end of the third quarter when play was halted due to an incident with a spectator.

A statement from the BBF on Sunday night was as follows:

During the Great Britain Women vs Germany game (July 21st) a medical incident occurred involving a member of the general public. Following this, the decision was taken to abandon the game.

British Basketball Federation want to extend thanks to both Great Britain and Germany for a fantastic display of the sport, and to the fans for their support and understanding under the circumstances. We would also like to praise the professionalism and speed of response by the venue, medical and security teams.

It was a new look roster for GB with Holly Winterburn named captain of a side that featured eight debutantes as Teresa Da Silva, Katie Januszewska, Shauna Harrison, Faye Endean, Maya Price, Jessie Ford, Claire Paxton, and Louise Rouse all made their senior bows.

Endean – who was not selected to represent the Under-20s last summer – suffered a serious injury shortly before the concerning incident occurred in the crowd.

Winterburn had 13 points for GB, while Satou Sabally was leading Germany with 12 points ahead of their trip to the Olympics next week.

GB will continue preparations of their own as they travel to Rwanda for the World Cup pre-qualifying tournament next month.
