The 152nd Open Championship: How to watch, preview, tee times, more

How can fans tune into the Open Championship? Here is everything you need to know about the final major of the year.

The 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon Golf Club has arrived as another week of ‘Breakfast Golf’ has descended upon American golf fans.

Players from both the PGA Tour and LIV Golf will tee it up this week, as this year’s Open features 158 players from around the world. Royal Troon will surely test them all as the unpredictable weather, wind, and possibly rain will create some issues for the field.

Troon’s famous bunkers will play a significant role, too, as they punish any shot that enters them—especially the Coffin Bunker on the short par-3 8th, the 123-yard hole known as ‘The Postage Stamp.’

Defending champion Brian Harman looks to become the first back-to-back winner since Padraig Harrington won in 2007 and 2008. But The Open is quite unpredictable, and the talent of this year’s field is deep.

How to Stream The Open Championship

The Open Championship Preview:

The last time Royal Troon hosted course this event, Henrik Stenson defeated Phil Mickelson in a duel for the ages to win the Claret Jug in 2016.

Defending champion Brian Harman will attempt to win his second major, which may be difficult as he is unfamiliar with Royal Troon.

There are 19 former champions in the field, including legends such as Ernie Els, Padraig Harrington, and Tiger Woods.

This year, 37 golfers will make their debut in this tournament.

One of those first-timers is Ludvig Åberg. The 24-year-old played well last week but struggled to close the deal on Sunday. Despite losing, the young Swedish phenom has a solid chance of winning his first major championship.

Rory McIlroy looks to end his major championship drought after a dramatic and heartbreaking finish at the U.S. Open. Last week at the Scottish Open, he played well enough to record a T-4, but McIlroy’s putter let him down.

There are also the LIV guys to watch out for, such as Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, David Puig, Tyrrell Hatton, and many more.

DeChambeau could win two majors in one year if he can play like he did at Pinehurst. He has a lot of confidence in his game right now, and it will be hard to beat him.

After an extended break, Scottie Scheffler is back to try to win his second major of 2024. In his last start three weeks ago, he won the Travelers Championship to earn his sixth win of the season. But Scheffler arriving well-rested could spell trouble for the rest of the field.

Players such as Aaron Rai, Collin Morikawa, Robert MacIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Viktor Hovland, Koepka, Hatton, Shane Lowry, and Tony Finau could all do something special this week. These players come into this week with plenty of momentum, which could carry over to Troon.

Royal Troon will give golf fans the carnage they enjoy seeing at major championships, and the scoring could be very similar to that of the U.S. Open earlier this year.

With Scotland sitting that far north, the sun rises at 4:40 a.m. local time and does not set until around 10 p.m., which allows everyone to tee off the first hole.
