0 7
Barry Jackson: Kings have talked to Bulls about DeRozan sign and trade, per source. Spurs also now another possibility. Despite DeRozan interest in Miami, Heat not in position to give him what he’s seeking at this time… Heat will hope opportunity on some player it wants arises this summer.

I’m trying to find some “holy crap the bottom has totally fallen out and there’s no market” teams for DeMar DeRozan. Like, if this drags on another week and all of the non-tax MLEs are suddenly gone and he just needs to prioritize finding a home with upside. Here’s who I’ve got: – 1:05 PM

Wrote a little bit about DeMar DeRozan’s seemingly tepid free-agent market.
I think this is pretty straightforward. This isn’t a matter of the CBA scaring suitors. I just don’t think many teams want to a pay a 35-year-old who doesn’t shoot 3’s or defend.

The Bulls had the opportunity to sell off DeMar DeRozan, Alex Caruso and Andre Drummond at the trade deadline to contending teams for draft capital.
In the end, they will likely receive zero draft picks for all three.

DeMar DeRozan always insisted his future was in Chicago.
But only days into free agency, it seems that door is swinging closed.
Is DeMar moving on? And what does that mean for the Bulls in the future?

With Klay Thompson off of the board, I assume the Lakers will now move to DeMar DeRozan.
I personally don’t like the fit. If you’re going to have a bad defender I’m of the opinion that he needs to at least be able to make 3’s. But hey, it’s LeBron’s money, not mine. – 2:35 PM
Sam Quinn @SamQuinnCBS
My take on DeMar DeRozan as a Lakers target:
It made some sense in 2021, when they could’ve kept Caruso and maybe KCP or Kuzma for 3-and-D support. But right now, the defense isn’t good enough to support DeRozan without compromising the spacing too much for it to work. – 1:51 PM

More on this storyline

ESPN’s Zach Lowe believes the Sacramento Kings are a “sneak” candidate to land DeMar DeRozan in free agency. “I think the Kings have a move yet to make in the offseason… I think they’ve sniffed around DeRozan,” Lowe said Wednesday on the Lowe Post podcast (23:10). He called Sacramento a “sneak DeRozan team.” -via Bleacher Report / July 3, 2024
They Lakers have now turned their attention to DeMar DeRozan, though the Miami Heat are currently viewed as slight favorites to land the 15-year veteran and six-time All-Star, according to league sources. -via New York Times / July 3, 2024
If this wasn’t already obvious, the Lakers will need to throw some bodies overboard and may have to pay a team like the Pistons or Jazz with second-round picks to take them. Most simply, L.A. could drop Christian Wood and Cam Reddish off on another team’s doorstep, re-sign Taurean Prince for up to $5.5 million and have a 14-man roster that is right at the second apron. To get a player like DeMar DeRozan with the nontaxpayer midlevel exception, however, the Lakers would likely need to part with bigger contracts — think Gabe Vincent, Rui Hachimura and/or D’Angelo Russell. Max Christie’s new deal, occupying an estimated $7.2 million on their cap sheet, remains a thorn in the Lakers’ side in this respect. -via New York Times / July 3, 2024
