Burns was one of the stars of this year’s March Madness.

One of the biggest stars of March Madness will be with the Cleveland Cavaliers at Summer League.

Per The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Cleveland Cavaliers will have NC State star DJ Burns in Las Vegas next month. Burns went undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Burns, 23, was one of the breakout stars of last’s NCAA Tournament. He led NC State to the Final Four (the school’s first 1983) before they lost to Zach Edey’s Purdue.

Before his one season with the Wolfpack, Burns spent a redshirt year at Tennessee before playing three seasons at Winthrop. He was the Big South Player of the Year at Winthrip in 2022 and the Big South Freshman of the Year in 2020. At NC State, he was the ACC tournament MVP and Most Outstanding Player in the South Region.

In his last season with NC State, Burns averaged 12.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. In the tournament.

As a pro, Burns has work to do. He’s a 6’9”, 275-pound big who does a lot of his work inside. His style isn’t overly common or effective in the modern NBA. But he’s clearly a talent and has worked to get in better shape since the end of the season. He’s worth a look at Summer League and perhaps could be in the running for a two-way deal when fall rolls around.
