I keep on hearing that the Knicks went all-in on the Bridges deal. I don’t agree with that statement.
Here’s how they’re set up for potentially even more trades, and what happens with Anunoby/Hartenstein:

Per ESPNBET, Knicks odds to win championship improved from +1600 to +1000 – tied for 5th-lowest odds. Fascinating roster deciding on starting lineup: Brunson, Donte, Hart, Mikal, OG, Jules, MRob. This is if Begley’s right Hartenstein a goner. – 12:00 PM

Here are some ways the New York Knicks could modify the Mikal Bridges trade so they could exceed the $178.7 million first apron, giving them an additional $11 million to field the roster next season:
-Assuming Isaiah Hartenstein doesn’t return, fold it into a three team-deal – 9:50 AM

Story: Which teams pursued Mikal Bridges? What’s next for Knicks free agents OG Anunoby and Isaiah Hartenstein? Plus, why sources say Cam Johnson, Dorian Finney-Smith, Bojan Bogdanovic, Dennis Schroder, and Ben Simmons are trade candidates on @hoopshype. hoopshype.com/lists/nba-inte…9:05 AM

in a vacuum: it’s an overpay. no other franchise was likely going to offer that amount for him.
when you realize how many picks the franchise still has in that war chest + re-signing OG and/or Hartenstein requires zero draft compensation to complete, it makes more sense. theyve – 3:20 AM

Mikal Bridges’ side made it clear to Nets he wanted to be a Knick. But Nets didn’t have to trade him. Knicks made an offer BKN couldn’t refuse. More on that, why Isaiah Hartenstein is unlikely to be back & what it means for OG Anunoby & more here: pic.twitter.com/Zu5uMmeAFd11:16 PM

Wonder if a cap space team would be interested in taking on Randle. It’s not a terrible contract & would give NYK more room to retain their free agents. How committed is NY to keeping BOTH Hartenstein & OG? – 11:07 PM
John Gonzalez @JohnGonzalez
Obv gave up a ton to get Mikal Bridges. And won’t be easy to keep Hartenstein. But if the Knicks keep OG and have him in a starting lineup with Jalen Brunson, Julius Randle and Bridges….YO. Plus depth with Hart and Donte off the bench. Immediately Celtics biggest challengers – 10:48 PM
Adrian Wojnarowski @wojespn
The Knicks are still determined to keep OG Anunoby in free agency, sources tell ESPN, but the ability to resign center Isaiah Hartenstein becomes more difficult now. The Knicks are loading up on wings to match up with the NBA champion Boston Celtics. – 10:38 PM
Mark Deeks @MarkDeeksNBA
Isaiah Hartenstein is more than likely going to be worth the bag he’s going to get. Just don’t see how enough teams out there have the spending power/priorities to drive up a bidding war. Then again, it only takes two. – 10:29 PM

The Knicks are “increasingly unlikely” to retain Isaiah Hartenstein in free agency, per @IanBegley.

NYK free agent C Isaiah Hartenstein is expected to be a top target for several opposing teams in free agency. With the offers that Hartenstein is expected to command on open market, it’s become increasingly unlikely that NYK will be able to retain Hartenstein, per SNY sources – 10:22 PM

More on this storyline

Ian Begley: NYK free agent C Isaiah Hartenstein is expected to be a top target for several opposing teams in free agency. With the offers that Hartenstein is expected to command on open market, it’s become increasingly unlikely that NYK will be able to retain Hartenstein, per SNY sources -via x.com / June 26, 2024
Yossi Gozlan: The New York Knicks are now hard capped to the $178.7 million first apron by taking back more salary than they’re sending out. This will have roster-building implications. They could still re-sign OG Anunoby and Isaiah Hartenstein, but they’ll need to reduce payroll elsewhere. -via Twitter @YossiGozlan / June 25, 2024
In other Knicks free agency news, the team is expected to offer Isaiah Hartenstein the full four-year, $72 million maximum deal at their disposal to try and retain him in free agency, league sources told HoopsHype. Should New York lose Hartenstein in free agency to a higher offer elsewhere, several centers are on their radar as potential replacements, including free agents Goga Bitadze, Jonas Valanciunas, and Nick Richards, who would be a trade target, league sources told HoopsHype. There’s also an outside chance the Knicks make a run at Andre Drummond, sources said. -via HoopsHype / June 24, 2024
