Brad Stevens decided not to pursue trades for Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant, Jimmy Butler, Paul George, Anthony Davis
More than anyone in the organization, Stevens is responsible for the decision to keep giving Brown and Tatum time to build their relationship and grow into the leaders of the franchise. He was the coach who signed off on drafting each of them, then the executive entrusted with building the right team around them. He was the decision-maker on all of the trade offers that came in from around the league as teams hoped Boston would lose patience with one or both of them. He was the man, sources said, who said no or decided not to pursue trades for Paul George (2017), Jimmy Butler (2018-19), Kawhi Leonard (2019) Anthony Davis (2019) and Kevin Durant (2022).

NBA Insider Shams Charania of The Athletic recently reported that Butler is more than content with signing a contract extension in Miami, but it must come at the maximum price. “My sense is Jimmy Butler does not want to be anywhere but Miami,” Charania said on the Pat McAfee Show. “Sense is that he loves it in Miami. But again, he is extension-eligible this year. There are multiple teams out there that would give him an extension, and I think this is something that we’ll see play out over the next month or so. Both pieces of information concerned Boston Celtics guard Derrick White. Wojnarowski said White is under serious consideration to join Team USA for this summer’s Paris Olympics. If Kawhi Leonard of the LA Clippers can’t get his knee to a place where he can play, White is considered the top choice to replace him. Michael Scotto: The leaguewide expectation is that OG Anunoby will return to the Knicks. The question is, for how much? From executives I’ve talked to around the league, Anunoby’s floor appears to be $35 million, and his ceiling is a max contract. Philadelphia will be looking for a 3-and-D small forward and has the max cap space to make the offer if they believe they’ll miss out on their top target, Paul George.
