Cleveland Charge to play next season at Cleveland Public Auditorium
The Charge will be moving from the Wolstein Center where they played the previous three seasons.
The Cleveland Cavaliers G League affiliate, the Cleveland Charge, announced on Tuesday that they will be moving from the Wolstein Center to the historic Cleveland Public Auditorium for the start of next season and beyond. They entered into a multi-year agreement with the City of Cleveland that will keep them downtown. As part of that agreement, the Charge will invest significantly in upgrading the back-of-house facilities for the Cleveland Public Auditorium before opening next season.
The Charge first moved from Canton to downtown Cleveland at the start of the 2021-2022 season and spent the last three seasons there. The Wolstein Center isn’t the most state-of-the-art venue, but it did serve its purpose. The move should allow for a better fan experience.
The Cleveland Public Auditorium is a 102-year-old building, but it has a history of hosting a wide variety of events in its time from the Beatles to political conventions. Basketball will be the next thing it hosts.
“Cleveland is a sports town and we are thrilled to welcome the Charge and their fans to Public Auditorium,” Mayor Justin Bibb said in the press release. “This move underscores our commitment to providing a world-class venue for professional basketball in downtown Cleveland and we look forward to a great season and a successful partnership.”
