The Lakers head coaching search heats up as the franchise reportedly interviewed multiple candidates.

The Lakers are fully focused on the head coaching search after letting go of Darvin Ham and it appears they have completed their first round of interviews.

According to Shams Charania and Jovan Buha of The Athletic, JJ Redick, James Borrego and Sam Cassell have reportedly been interviewed for the open position.

The Lakers have held formal meetings with JJ Redick, New Orleans Pelicans associate head coach James Borrego and Boston Celtics assistant coach Sam Cassell over the past several days, according to those sources. Team officials plan to meet with Denver Nuggets assistant coach David Adelman, Minnesota Timberwolves assistant Micah Nori and Miami Heat assistant Chris Quinn as they do their due diligence on the candidate pool.

Redick appears to be a fan favorite to take on the position and it has been reported that some view him as having the potential to be the next Pat Riley. That's pretty high praise for LeBron James' podcasting partner.

Despite Redick's connection with James, it's been reported that the King is "not involved" in the head coaching search, though that has done little to quiet the noise that the Duke alumnus is in the driver's seat for the position.

However, Redick securing the spot isn't a formality, as Cassell is reportedly viewed as a "legitimate candidate."

Cassell also has ties to James, given that he is a Klutch Sports client. He's certainly paid his dues in coaching by being an assistant since 2014, first with Doc Rivers and the Clippers, followed by three years with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Borrego isn't just a forgettable name in this coaching search. He is the only candidate who was reportedly interviewed with NBA head coaching experience. Borrego was the interim coach for the Orlando Magic back in 2015 and was the head coach of the Charlotte Hornets from 2018-2022. He is currently an assistant for the New Orleans Pelicans.

David Adelman, Chris Quinn and Micha Nori are the remaining names connected to the Lakers' head coaching position that have yet to be interviewed. We'll see when/if they are interviewed for the job and how they fare.

Nori is the only coach still working NBA games, as his Minnesota Timberwolves are in the Western Conference Finals.
