It’s not new in the ACC anymore but it’s still a bit strange

Over at SaturdayRoad.com, Brett Friedlander looks at five intra-conference transfers who are likely to have a big effect on the ACC race and here they are:

  1. Jaeden Zackery - Clemson
  2. TJ Power - Virginia
  3. Jaylen Warley - Virginia
  4. Brandon Huntley-Hatfield - NC State
  5. Maliq Brown - Duke

We’ve always thought Zackery was a pretty neat player at BC. It’s not like he’s an NBA guard, but he’s solid and smart and he can do a lot for his team. He’s a gutty, gritty guard. Clemson’s going to love him.

TJ Power could have carved out a role at Duke this season but we’ll never know now. He really is a superb marksman and he’s going to help Virginia’s perimeter game a lot. As we’ve said all along, he just needs to be stronger and more physically mature. That’s about it. He’ll be a good fit for the Cavs.

We were never all that impressed with Warley at FSU but he’ll be needed at UVA and could refine his game. It’s a totally different style, obviously, but he could thrive there and they need a big defender. He’s also a big point guard and UVA can use that.

Brandon Huntley-Hatfield is now on his third school, having left Tennessee and Louisville. NC State needs some size and he may get some positive reinforcement from NC State’s staff, as they did an excellent job with DJ Burns, Mohamed Diarra and Ben Middlebrooks.

Friedlander turned this in just before Wake Forest got one more in-conference transfer Saturday when former Louisville Cardinal Ty-Laur Johnson committed to Wake Forest Saturday. He’s a small point guard but potentially a great pickup for the Deacs. And Steve Forbes is one of the better coaches around at putting together what are basically improvised teams on short notice. We’re sure he’d appreciate more stability but the guy has tremendous skill at putting the pieces together on short notice. He’s very resourceful.
