A major addition for Duke, James solves a lot of problems

Former Tulane star Sion James has committed to Duke.

The 6-6 player has guard skills - he played point - and is athletic enough to play forward as well.

He first of all gives Duke an excellent third guard. He’s slightly taller than Caleb Foster and Tyrese Proctor, who are both 6-5, but all three can play point and, at times we presume, could play together too.

He scored 14 ppg last season. His assists were slightly off from his last two seasons - he had 2.7 per game this year, 3.6 as a sophomore and 3.4 as a junior - but many things can influence that. He’s also a solid rebounder.

James can really be a big help for Jon Scheyer’s team.

He joins Maliq Brown and Mason Gillis as talented, experienced players who should all be significant contributors for Duke this upcoming season.
