City Section basketball: Granada Hills girls earn No. 1 seed in Open Division

The Los Angeles City Section released its boys and girls basketball playoff pairings Saturday afternoon, which included the teams selected to the Open Division, the section’s highest field and made up of eight teams.

The Granada Hills Charter girls basketball team earned the No. 1 seed in the Open Division after finishing unbeaten in the West Valley League. Fellow league members Birmingham and Taft were also selected to the field.

In the opening round Thursday, Granada Hills will host No. 8 San Fernando, No. 5 Birmingham will play at No. 4 King/Drew, No. 7 Taft is at No. 2 Westchester and No. 6 Palisades will play at No. 3 Crenshaw. The games start at 7 p.m.

Narbonne received the No. 1 seed in the boys Open Division. Local teams Birmingham, the No. 2 seed, and No. 4 Taft were also selected for the Open Division.

In first-round games Friday, Narbonne will play at No. 8 Westchester, Taft will host No. 5 King/Drew, Birmingham will host No. 7 San Pedro and No. 6 Crenshaw will travel to No. 3 Fairfax. The games start at 7 p.m.
