[Women's Basketball] Balanced Scoring Lifts Women's Basketball to Victory

Doane Women's Basketball found their winning ways once again on Wednesday evening as they posted a 90-68 victory over Saint Mary (Neb.) in Crete. The Tigers jumped out with a big first quarter and never looked back as they led by as many as 35 points in the third quarter of play.

The opening quarter saw a tight first three minutes of play with Doane leading, 6-4. The Tigers would go on a 9-0 run which would turn into a 19-3 run as they took a 25-7 lead after 10 minutes of action. Megan Chambers (FR/Omaha, Neb.) and Mak Hatcliff (SO/Beatrice, Neb.) had six points apiece in the opening quarter.

Doane used a 7-0 run midway through the second quarter to push their lead to 24 points. Saint Mary would counter with a 6-0 run over a 90 second stretch only to see the Tigers close out the half with the final nine points to take a 47-21 lead into the break.

The third quarter would prove to be the highest scoring quarter with the Tigers out-scoring the Flames, 33-30. Doane's largest lead of the game came following eight straight points from Libby Trausch (FR/Juniata, Neb.) as she pushed the lead to 78-43.

Saint Mary used a 12-0 run in the fourth quarter to trim the Doane lead. The Flames out-scored the Tigers, 17-10, in the final 10 minutes of action.

Five players finished in double-figures for Doane, led by Megan Chambers. The Tiger rookie posted her first career double-double, scoring 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting and pulling in 10 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end of the court. Trausch finished with 15 points while Macy Holtz (SO/Plainview, Minn.) added 14 points, Hatcliff had 13 points, and Rylie Rice (FR/Chapman, Neb.) chipped in with 10 points.

Holtz led the Tigers with four assists while three players had two steals apiece, Kali Staples (SO/Broken Bow, Neb.), Hatcliff, and Chambers.

For the game, Doane shot 48-percent from the floor and made 8-of-19 from behind the arc for 42.1-percent. They were 10-of-15 at the free throw line.

Saint Mary shot 37.7-percent from the floor, hitting 12-of-32 3-point baskets for a 37.5-percent clip. They were also 10-of-15 from the free throw line.

Bailey White led the Flames with 18 points, hitting five 3-point baskets. Allison Schubert finished with 13 points and Allisa Schubert added 10 points. Madelyn Turner led the team with seven rebounds and three steals.

Doane will return to the court on Friday, December 9, when they play host to Viterbo in non-conference action. Tip-off is set for 6 PM in the Haddix Center.
