[Men's Soccer] Park Battles No. 11 OUAZ to 2-2 Draw
Park-Gilbert took a big step forward in the evolution of its program when by fought No. 11 Ottawa (Ariz.) to a 2-2 tie in Mesa, Ariz. The Buccaneers jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick off the foot of Austin Murray in the 35th minute and maintained that advantage into the intermission. OUAZ answered six minutes into the second half with a goal off of a set piece and continued to apply pressure (15 shots, 10 on goal), but Park goalie Jerry Backstrom kept the ball from getting behind him. In the 84th minute, Park's Caleb Christner sprinted down the right side of the goalie box and rocketed a shot past the Spirit keeper and give the Buccaneers a lead with only six minutes remaining. But OUAZ answered quickly, tying the match with less than two minutes left by converting in a scramble in front of the Bucs net.
