[Softball] USK Upsets No. 17 HIU

Catherine Dages went five innings and picked up the win, and Breanna Villarreal closed out the game with a scoreless two-inning stint to lead Saint Katherine to a 6-3 win over No. 17 Hope International in the second game of a doubleheader last Saturday in Fullerton, Calif.  The Firebirds, now 2-6 on the season, scored an unearned run in the top of the 1st after America Santana tripled and then scored on an HIU error, and they doubled the lead in the 3rd with an RBI-single off the bat of Alyssa Bolden.  Keana Castro's double down the left field line plated a third run in the 4th, but HIU got on the board in the home half of that frame to make it 3-1.  Yessica Sanchez tripled to right in the 5th to give USK a three-run lead, but the Royals scored twice in the bottom of the inning to make it 4-3.  USK put the game out of reach in the 7th on an RBI-single from Ashlie Alshouse and another unearned run.
