WICHITA, Kan. – Friends University men's basketball freshman forward Alex Gray has made an immediate impact since joining the program, and today (Feb. 7) his contributions were recognized by receiving his first career KCAC Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week award, the conference office has announced.
Gray continued his superb play since arriving on campus, averaging 18.5 ppg and eight rebounds in the Falcons two games this past week. His week was highlighted by a career-best 25 points in the Falcons' near win at Ottawa on Tuesday (Feb. 1).
The Owensboro, Ky. native then scored 12 more points along with a team-high eight boards in the Falcons' 72-66 upset victory over (RV) Southwestern College last Saturday night (Feb. 5).
Gray is averaging 12.4 points per game, 8.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists in nine career games thus far for the Falcons.
"Alex is so deserving of this recognition," said Friends men's basketball head coach Austin McBeth. "His attitude, competitiveness, and work ethic aligns with the DNA of our program. I wish everyone could hear his story of why he plays with the passion he does. The best part about him receiving this award is knowing he will be the first person to share the success with his teammates."
The Falcons will next play at Sterling College Wednesday night (Feb. 9) at 8 pm in Sterling, Kan.
