WESTLAKE — Thousand Oaks is the team to beat in the Marmonte League. The Lancers have 11 seniors and are guided by longtime coach Rich Endres, who’s in his 25th year at the helm.

Caleb Chin is a 6-foot-5 forward that out-muscles opponents inside, but can also shoot the 3 if he’s open. Patrick Saari is a shifty, fun-to-watch point guard who has an array of ways to finish at the rim. The senior tandem led Thousand Oaks to a 66-46 victory over Westlake and keep the Lancers unbeaten in league play Wednesday night.

Chin led all scorers with 21 points – 13 coming in the first half – and Saari added 12. Westlake (13-4, 2-2) was led by freshman Trent MacLean’s 12 points.

Thousand Oaks (13-3, 3-0) is eyeing its first league title since 2015, a year that ended in a quarterfinal loss to Tesoro. Endres, who won the program a CIF Southern Section title in 2009, thinks his Lancers have what it takes to knock on the door for a CIF crown in February.

“We have the toughness,” Endres said. “That’s what you need in the playoffs. I saw we had it at the beginning of the year in the Redondo Tournament.”

The Lancers are currently ranked No. 4 in the most recent Division 2A poll behind San Juan Hills, Edison, and ironically, Tesoro.

Harvard-Westlake 56, St Francis 45: Brady Dunlap led the Wolverines with 15. Buckley DeJardin had 15 for St. Francis.

Alemany 62, Crespi 58: Mason Dorsey had 32 points and 13 rebounds in the Celts’ loss.

Oak Park 80, Royal 41: Isaiah Sherrard was at it again Wednesday night, tallying 22 points and 15 rebounds.

Village Christian 72, Chaminade 59: Immanuel Taylor had 15 points and Noah Williams added 12 for the Crusaders.

Heritage Christian 64, La Serna 43: Pierre Geneste notched a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Tookey Wigington added 14 for the Warriors.

Birmingham 69, Chatsworth 65: Kory Blunt led Birmingham with 21 points, Tyson Jackson had 17 and Brooklyn Caldwell added 16. Chatsworth’s Tim Lopez had 20 points in the close loss.
