With one Filipowski brother committed to Duke, another heads to Harvard

One Filipowski brother is already headed to Duke, and now a second has committed to Harvard.

Matthew Filipowski, the two-star 6-foot-10 center from Wilbraham & Monson Academy (MA) and the NY Rens, committed to Harvard on Monday. He chose the Crimson over over Cal Poly, Bucknell, and Quinnipiac.

His twin brother, Kyle Filipowski, committed to Duke this summer and became the first commit for head-coach-in-waiting Jon Scheyer.

Matthew Filipkwski, who averaged 19.7 points as a junior, joins two-star combo guard Chandler Piggé and three-star Chisom Okpara in Harvard’s 2022 class.

“Matt has worked for this for his entire high school career,” Wilbraham & Monson coach Mike Mannix said. “From day one he has prioritized academics and has always wanted to pair that aspect with a high level of basketball. I think it’s a wonderful fit and he’ll help Harvard carry on the winning tradition Coach [Tommy] Amaker has built.”

Filipowski helped the NY Rens reach the semifinals of Peach Jam this summer.

“Matthew is a true 7-footer with an advanced skill set for his age. He’s incredibly comfortable with the ball in his hands facing the basket out to 20 feet,” added NY Rens coach Andy Borman.. “He can shoot it, pass it, and can drag the other teams big away from the basket opening up the paint for his teammates,”

Borman continued: “He is also effective around in the paint with his back to the basket and as a defensive presence. He is a terrific teammate, has an incredibly high basketball IQ, and is willing to do all of the dirty work required. He will fit right in at Harvard on day 1. His teammates will love him and he will love them. Matthew is the type of player that cares about winning at a high level. His core values match the Harvard program on the court and in the classroom.”
