In The New Era, Will Duke And UNC Still Be Powerhouses?

It looks likely.

As we all know, Duke and UNC are both on the verge of new eras. With Hubert Davis taking over for Ol’ Roy Williams in Chapel Hill and Jon Scheyer poised to take over for Mike Krzyzewski at Duke after this season, it’s a major period of change.

It means a lot of things for Duke but one different thing is that Chris Carrawell and Nolan Smith will handle scout duties by themselves. Scheyer is going to be busy soaking up stuff from Coach K and given how much Coach K has to offer, that’s a big job. Here’s what K had to say about S (sorry): “Jon is ready, and I knew that when we put this whole thing together in the spring. He’s a natural. He’s a great relationship builder and a hard worker. He’s got it.”

Meanwhile, over at Cheater Hill, Davis is, well, not exactly boasting about his energy level but certainly drawing a contrast with his predecessor.

Here’s what Davis had to say: “I don’t have any brakes. There are no brakes. It’s all gas pedal since April. It’s been pushing the gas pedal all the way down to the floor...If you’re tired, I don’t care. I’m tired too. I’m tired of losing. I’m tired of not going to the Final Four. I’m tired of not winning the championship.”

In other words, Duke and UNC intend to contend, more or less permanently.
