One of the few players on a non-minimum contract, Kendrick Nunn will be a valuable piece for the Lakers that has a solid case for the starting lineup.

The Lakers had one avenue to use to bring in an external free agent on a non-minimum deal. That they used that on Kendrick Nunn both shows his value and the expectations the team will have on him this season.

After seeing his efficiency jump across the board last season as a scorer, Nunn was the victim of cap gymnastics as the Miami Heat opted for the veteran and former All-Star Kyle Lowry over the young Nunn. Cut free from restricted free agency, Nunn sacrificed more money to join the Lakers on the taxpayer mid-level exception.

On this week’s episode of “Can U Dig It,” a podcast by the Silver Screen & Roll network, Jacob and Christian continue the player preview series by taking a deeper look into Nunn. The two look at his excellent efficiency offensively and how he could fill an important role on the Lakers in that regard. They also look at his defensive shortcomings and how that could limit his minutes with the Lakers.

Lastly, they discuss whether he could be a part of the Lakers’ starting lineup, particularly with the recent report that Anthony Davis and LeBron James could be starting at the center and power forward positions. With an open spot on the wing, in that case, Nunn’s case for a starting spot grows much stronger.
