Johnny Dawkins, UCF About To Join The Big 12?

A big move up for the Knights

When Johnny Dawkins took the Central Florida job, it was a step down from Stanford. He’s done a nice job though, nearly knocking Duke out of the 2019 NCAA tournament as his son’s layup rimmed out at the last possible second.

Well looks like he’ll be moving up: the Big 12 is going to expand to counter the losses of Texas and Oklahoma and reportedly will invite UCF, BYU, Cincinnati and Houston to join next week.

UCF is currently in the AAC and the jump up will mean a lot more money. It’ll also mean that Dawkins will go toe to toe with (assuming nothing else changes) Kansas, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, West Virginia and the rest.

The expansion is about football and UCF has been pretty damn good in football, but there will be a lot of benefits for Dawkins and his program as well. Selling the Big 12 is going to be a lot easier than selling the AAC.
