Who Knows How Many Olympic Champions Have Been Killed Because of Abortion

0 19

Whether it be divers courageously somersaulting through the air or golfers sending a ball soaring onto the green, the feats of Olympians leave me breathless. While I was never an athletic competitor, I love to sit and marvel at the seemingly miraculous exploits of everyone from gymnasts to basketball players, weightlifters to sprinters. It is sheer joy to see athletes don medals for their phenomenal skills.

But I watch the competition with a certain sobriety, knowing that there are young men and women who should be there—but are not—because they were never permitted a chance to be born. These are the would-be champions who lost their lives because of abortion.

In the U.S. alone, we lose nearly 900,000 precious babies in a given year because of this silent scourge. It is heart-breaking, it is tragic, and it is avoidable.

No mother should feel as if she has no choice but to abort her offspring. There are caring people throughout the world who stand ready to assist her and the baby within her womb. (See Lisa Bourne’s lovely story about pregnancy help centers.)

Roe v. Wade, the horrendous 1973 U.S. Supreme Court ruling which legalized abortion across the U.S., has deeply damaged our society. In the decades since that dreadful decision, America has lost more than 62 million preborn babies to abortion. Odds are that many, many prospective Olympians have been among the casualties.

What if the GOAT (greatest of all time) was aborted? What amazing athletic power and prowess have we missed because of abortion? What records would have been shattered, what milestones would have been achieved, if all babies were simply permitted the chance to live?

In my mind’s eye, I can imagine an empty spot on the Olympic platform, one reserved for an athlete whose Olympic dream died in an abortion center. Hers is the medal that was never awarded, because she never got her chance for Olympic gold.

The sports world—and all of us—are poorer for her absence.
