[WHAC] Indiana Tech Wins Fred Smith Commissioner's Cup

0 3

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Indiana Tech won the 2020-21 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Fred Smith Commissioner's Cup for excellence in the athletic department. It's the fourth such award for the Warriors as Tech won in 2016-17, tied with Madonna in 2017-18, and won for 2018-19 season. As part of its sponsorship with the WHAC, Indiana Tech's athletic director Jessie Bigss will receive a special ring from Baron Rings commerating the occasion.

In the first year of the new format, IT won seven conference championships and six conference tournaments. The award was announced at the annual spring meeting which was a video conference call.

"This is a testament to the work that the coaches, student-athletes, and support staff put in over the course of the 20-21 academic year," said Indiana Tech Athletics Director Jessie Biggs. "In addition, none of the results that contributed to this honor would have been possible without the strategic leadership of Dr. Einolf and contributions from the entire Indiana Tech community."

Named after longtime Siena Heights athletics director Fred Smith for his outstanding contributions to the league, the WHAC Fred Smith Commissioner's Cup is computed using 12 sports (six men's and six women's) for each school. Points are awarded in descending order to full WHAC members based on regular season standings in each conference sport plus an additional five points to the conference tournament champion. The point allocation, for those conference sports sponsored by eight (8) or more WHAC members, is 20 points for first place, 15 for second place, 12 points for third place, 10 points for fourth place, eight points for fifth place, seven points for sixth place, and so on. The conference tournament champion for sports without regular season standings will receive 25 points with the rest of the point allocations following the same format listed above.
