Michael Baer, who played for Fran McCaffery at Iowa, transfers to Siena basketball
Baer, who spent three years as a walk-on forward under McCaffery at Iowa, announced on Twitter tonight he’s accepted a scholarship from Siena.
Baer, who is 6-foot-7 and 215 pounds, will play immediately as a graduate transfer and have two years of eligibility remaining under head coach Carmen Maciariello.
Baer played in 20 games for a total of 46 minutes in three seasons at Iowa. He scored 10 career points in the Big Ten, but McCaffery said Baer can contribute for the Saints in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
“I think it’s a great fit,” said McCaffery, who coached Siena for five seasons before leaving for Iowa in 2010. “They’ve got some really good players and Carm’s done a terrific job. I think Michael will be a great fit for Carm’s trying to do. He’ll be a piece. He’s a physical post player that’s a tremendous rebounder, especially on the offensive end."
