This is turning into a big deal for Duke

As we’ve said several times lately, the new transfer situation will allow coaches to build teams far more quickly than in the past and the coaches who figured this out the quickest would be ahead of the competition.

We just didn’t realize it would be Duke’s Kara Lawson.

And why would we? She had never spent a minute recruiting before taking the Duke job. She appears to have figured out the transfer business pretty quickly though and on Wednesday, she added a fourth transfer who, like all the others, was seen as a 5-star recruit coming out of high school.

She also brings a bit of size.

Amaya Finklea-Guity comes to Duke from Syracuse, where the Orange used the 6-4 player almost exclusively inside. She should at least have a similar role at Duke.

Obviously a lot of programs have had transfer issues this year but Syracuse’s have been particularly bad: the women’s program has lost 11 players to the portal. Eleven?!
