[Women's Basketball] 2021 Women's Basketball Conference Honors Released

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - (Complete Honors) - The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) annoucned its 2021 Women's Basketball Honors in conjunction with the league's tournament championship game.

Siena Heights' junior Peyton Banks repeated as the Player of the Year after 17.53 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. It's the first time a player has repeated in the award since Jeanette Woodberry from Davenport did it in back-to-back years in 2007 and 2008. Junior Marissa Brady was named Defensive Player of the Year with 9.8 defensive rebounds and 4.14 blocks per game. Rochester's Jacara Thompson earned Newcomer of the Year as she made a huge impact for the Warriors averaging 17.40 points per game.

Rochester head coach Brent Wichtner was voted as Coach of the Year for guiding the Warriors to their first-ever conference championship. RU finished the season 12-0 in WHAC play. Cornerstone head coach Jessica Yonkers repeated as the sport's Champions of Character Coach.

In addition to First and Second Team All-Conference, the WHAC also named an All-Defensive Team and All-Freshman Team. Other honors released include the All-Academic Team for juniors or above in academic standing with a cumulative 3.25 GPA. Nominees also must have been in attendance at the nominating school for one full year. The Champions of Character Team consists of one student-athlete from each school who best represents the five core character values of integrity, respect, responsibility, servant leadership, and sportsmanship.
