0 36

WICHITA, Kan. -- The Bethel College Threshers led the whole way in defeating the Friends University Falcons 67-58 Saturday (Jan. 9) inside the Garvey Center.

Trailing 12-0 early, Kayna Simoneau (JR/Rose Hill, Kan.) ended a scoring drought of over seven minutes with a layup and a three.  Khadijah Miller (SR/Arlington, Texas) hit a three at the buzzer to cut the Thresher lead to 16-10 at the end of the first quarter.

The Threshers took control in the third quarter, outscoring the Falcons 25-10 behind three straight threes from Jaycee Freshour to open up a 17 point lead.

The Falcons were unable to generate enough offense in the final period to close the gap.  Gracie Sammons (SO/Aubrey, Texas) knocked down three free throws and a three as the Falcons made a late push but the deficit proved too large.

Simoneau and Miller paced the Falcons with 11 points and two steals apiece while McKenzie Shippy (SO/Woodbrine, Kan. ) chipped in eight points.

Miller has scored in double figures in each of the last five games.

Abby Schmidt scored 14 points and grabbed 16 rebounds and Freshour also finished with 14 points.

The Falcons return to the hardwood on Monday (Jan. 11) for a KCAC matchup with Southwestern College.  Tipoff is scheduled for 6 PM.
