You Tube Gold: Three Classic Duke-UNC On-Court Conflicts

The Duke-UNC rivalry has been marked by several notable conflicts so we thought we’d highlight three of them.

Matt Doherty gets into it with Chris Collins after Dahntay Jones accidentally hit Raymond Felton in the mouth in 2003.

Gerald Henderson went up to block a shot and came down with his elbow in Tyler Hansbrough’s grill. Hansbrough had oral surgery the next day.

And finally, the legendary Art Heyman-Larry Brown imbroglio. This one was a major brouhaha that led to the ACC suspending Heyman for the rest of the regular ACC season.

The greatest part of this was Heyman’s story, which he told gleefully, of hitting UNC coach Frank McGuire “in the nuts.”

They saw each other years later and McGuire said “it still hurts, Artie,” or at least that’s how Heyman told the story.

We had forgotten about the Doherty story. If you watch this, knowing what we know now, the funny part is that Doherty was mad that Collins spoke to Rashad McCants. When Coach K came over, he put his hand on McCants to calm him - and McCants subtly pushed Doherty away.

Anyway, it was interesting to see it again at some remove. Enjoy all three.
