Podcast: Does Dennis Schröder deserve to start?

Dennis Schröder wants the starting job. Should the Lakers give it to him?

With basketball somehow already nearing a return, the Los Angeles Lakers will look to shake off the last remnants of their championship run and shift their focus to igniting a new one as training camp takes place over the next few weeks.

The team will look starkly different given the crop of fresh faces that they added to their title-winning core, and with such change come questions of potential chemistry hiccups that may arise along the way. Teams can win championships without being the best of friends, but that’s not the way the Lakers did it last season — they prided themselves on having championship-level chemistry, and that turned out to be one of the things that separated them from the pretenders of the NBA, especially over the course of the playoff bubble.

On Monday, the team’s new point guard and Sixth Man of the Year runner up, Dennis Schröder, made it clear that his intentions are to start. While there is nothing is particularly “wrong” with that desire, it at least has the potential to create a chemistry problem if he doesn’t get his wish, which brings us to today’s episode.

On this week’s edition of “Talk-O Tuesday,” our hosts Alex Padilla and Alex Regla discussed Schröder’s first comments to the media on Monday about expecting to start, whether he has a case to join the first five, and if who starts matters at all for this team. The Alex’s also gave an update on Anthony Davis’ pending contract, and looked ahead to the team’s first preseason game.
