What to make of BC?

In Monday night ACC action, things went pretty much according to expectations: UNC won and BC lost.

UNC beat UNLV 78-51 and BC lost to St. John’s 97-93.

Day’Ron Sharpe was not as sharp as he was in UNC’s game against Charleston where he was pretty dominant with 13 points, 10 boards and five of those offensive.

He had six rebounds but just one point and four turnovers. Walker Kessler had seven points and six boards as the front court time went more to experienced players Garrison Brooks and Armando Bacot.

UNC’s bench is looking thinner than we expected with Kessler, Sharpe and Andrew Platek getting most of those minutes. The only other guy to get many was freshman Kerwin Walton. Puff Johnson only got three.

Granted it’s early but UNC had this game in control and Ol’ Roy stuck with a tight rotation. That says a lot (in fairness it could also say that he just wants his freshmen backcourt to toughen up).

RJ Davis played well but Caleb Love was a bit hit-and-miss. UNC has talent but who knows how they’ll come together.

As for BC, the Eagles are now 1-2 but the losses are against Villanova and St. John’s, a team that might be better than people think.

The other Champagnie, Julian - his twin Justin plays for Jeff Capel at Pitt - had a big game with 29 points and 10 boards.

Wynston Tabbs had 23 and Jay Heath and Makai Ashton-Langford both hit for 13.

It looks as if BC might be better than expected, which would be great.

But what about Villanova? The Wildcats have played two ACC teams so far, and while Virginia Tech looked great, we’ll have to see how things pan out in the long run (they're now 16th in the AP). But BC? What do those two games say about ‘Nova? We’d love to know what Jay Wright is thinking now.

By the way, one of BC’s chronic problems has been facilities. Well they’re looking at a potentially helpful upgrade.

Here’s Tuesday’s ACC schedule:

  • St. Francis @ Virginia || 4:00 || ACCN
  • UNC vs. Stanford || 4:00 || ESPN
  • Western Kentucky @ Louisville || 6:00 || ESPN
  • Michigan State @ Duke || 7:30 || ESPN

A few quick notes. St. Francis just knocked off Pitt and would love to get Virginia, but after San Francisco, that ain’t happening.

Ziaire Williams nearly chose UNC. That could be an interesting factor in this game.

We wouldn’t rule out WKU at Louisville. That’s a decent basketball school and Louisville is still sorting things out.
