[Men's Basketball] Masin Notches 20 as Men's Basketball Returns to Court

Doane Men's Basketball returned to the court on Wednesday afternoon after a three-week layoff as they played host to Jamestown in the team's conference opener. The Jimmies picked up a 79-64 win over the Tigers, pulling away in the second half.

Jamestown used a 7-0 run midway through the opening half to turn a 13-12 lead into an eight-point advantage, 20-12. With the Jimmies leading by nine points, 25-16, with five minutes to play in the half, Max Masin (JR/Ponca, Neb.) knocked down a 3-point basket. Following a stop, Masin hit another shot from behind the arc. Jamestown was able to pick up a bucket to stop the mini-Masin run only to see Masin knock down his third straight 3-pointer to pull the Tigers within three points, 28-25. Jamestown was able to push the lead to seven at the half as they led 37-30.

In the second half, Jamestown used a 10-0 run to push a nine-point advantage to 19. Doane followed with three consecutive 3-pointers while the Jimmies picked up three straight baskets in the paint. A 7-0 run by Jamestown pushed the lead to 22 points, their largest of the game with nine minutes to play.

For the game, Doane was led by Masin with 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting, including 6-for-6 behind the arc, four rebounds, and two steals. Anthony Laravie (SR/Omaha, Neb.) added 12 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Jaxon Harre (SR/Omaha, Neb.) led the team with five rebounds while Zach Witters (SR/Lenexa, Kan.), Joe Burt (JR/Lincoln, Neb.), and Nick Saiz (FR/Lexington, Neb.) had three assists apiece to lead Doane.

Jamestown received 20 points and 12 rebounds from Mason Walters and 16 points and 10 rebounds from Brock Schrom. Marc Kjos added 18 points while Allante' Pickens dished out a game-high eight assists and collected three steals.

Doane fell to 3-3 on the year and 0-1 in the GPAC while Jamestown moved to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Next up for the Tigers will be a match-up with Mount Marty on Saturday, November 28, at 2 PM in Crete.
