Harrison Barnes tests positive for the coronavirus

The former Warriors forward has not joined the NBA’s bubble yet.

Former Golden State Warriors forward Harrison Barnes has tested positive for the coronavirus. The eight-year NBA veteran announced the news on Twitter, stating that he tested positive prior to traveling to the NBA bubble at the Disney Resort in Orlando.

Barnes has been quarantining at home, and plans on joining his Sacramento Kings teammates once he is cleared.

Here’s Barnes’ full statement:

Prior to the team leaving last week, I tested positive for Covid-19. I’ve been primarily asymptomatic and am doing well. I’m quarantined and am abiding by the safety protocol until I’m cleared for action. I hope to join my team in Orlando when it is safe to do so!

Barnes becomes the fourth known member of the Kings to contract the coronavirus, joining teammates Buddy Hield, Jabari Parker, and Alex Len. Hield and Parker have already been cleared, and joined Sacramento ahead of the season restart later this month.

The NBA has had a large number of positive cases, including to All-Stars Russell Westbrook, Nikola Jokic, Rudy Gobert, and Donovan Mitchell. The team announced on Monday that the first round of tests administered within the bubble resulted in two players (currently anonymous) testing positive for the coronavirus.

Barnes, who was drafted number 7 overall in the 2012 NBA Draft by Golden State, spent his first four years with the Warriors, and won a title with the team in 2015. He’s currently in his first full season with the Kings, after being traded to Sacramento (from the Dallas Mavericks) late last season. He’s averaging 14.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game on the year.
