Hauer is small (5-foot-9) for a post player. She comes from upstate New York. She might start her first college game.
She even wears No. 11, just like Hetzke did from 2014 to 2017 during a promising career that was cut short by a concussion.
Hauer donned No. 51 during a stellar career at Seton Catholic in Binghamton. She picked her new one by chance.
"I don't know,'' Hauer said. "I liked (11)."
Regardless of jersey, Siena head coach Ali Jaques would be very happy if Hauer can produce the kind of freshman season that Hetzke did in 2014-15. The Saints open their season against Binghamton, Hauer's hometown university, at Times Union Center on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
