Cord Cutting Developments And A Matt Christensen Update
The guy has been pretty busy apparently
Remember Duke big man Matt Christensen’s father Clayton?
He really pushed the idea of disruption into people’s consciousness. If you don’t know, it’s the idea that business is often disrupted by small, agile competitors who figure something out that bigger companies can’t replicate. Netflix vs. Blockbuster is a great example. Tesla may become one too, if it survives.
So as Disney and ESPN move into streaming more as cord cutting goes up, keep an eye on competitor DAZN. That company could emerge as a key player in the sports streaming world.
Meanwhile, smaller players are getting out of cable altogether - and in at least one case urging customers to move to streaming services and telling them how to go about it.
Meanwhile, Disney/ESPN are not going to cede the market and are trying various things including now porting content to Facebook.
Things are changing very fast.
Speaking of Christensen, he started a company with his father that seeks to identify and advise disruptive businesses. Since leaving Duke he has earned a Harvard MBA and is the CEO of Rose Park Advisors.
