MI Match

0 16
Inside the numbers...

Hitting Percentage:
- MI .308 for the season. UD .213. First impression...Yikes. Closer look, not so much.
- vs MO - MI .178 - UD .192
- vs NIU - MI .500 - UD .413
- I’m going to say MI opponent No AZ (.247) might be about UDs Miami (OH) (.333).
-Then MI played Oakland (.394) and TN Tech (.274)
-UD played TXAM (.170) and #7 FL (.195) - not even close to the same competition. And we have to acknowledge we mailed it in against LV (.042).

I don’t see MI with an advantage in hitting % although they are about .100 better on the season.

Neither team is blocking well. MI at 1:53/set. UD at 1.7. Considering our competition, I’d say advantage UD, but we have to bring a bigger block tonight to win.

Digs - UDs opponents have out-dug us by almost 1 per set. MI has out-dug their opponents by +1 per set. But UD has dug out more balls than MI by +2/set. Again considering the competition, I say advantage UD.

Points/set = UD is scoring 15 points per set of which 5 come from Jamie Peterson. MI is scoring 16.5 per set. Competition probably gives this advantage to UD... until you look at who is scoring what. MI has 4 players scoring 3 pts/set. (12 of those 16.5) We have to find a way to shut down 4 players. MI has to shut down Peterson. Not easy to do...but a whole lot more video on her now than last weekend. MIs top four score 12 per set. Our top four score 10.5 per set of which almost half is Peterson. Advantage is probably MI here putting more urgency on our block to stop their hitters at the net.

Errors - these are your attack errors + service errors + receiving errors + ball handling errors. UD 9.5 per set. MI 8.4. Considering competition, probably even, but we have to win this stat to beat MI. We have to play clean.

And for a match against two talented teams, it always comes down to serve and pass. The public doesn’t get a team’s passing grade although every team keeps this stat. It’s the most important stat in Volleyball and the NCAA doesn’t “keep” this stat. If you don’t want to publish individual passing grades - I can live with that, although you publish everything else on an individual basis. But give us the team passing grade by set. It would sure go a long way in helping fans understand the game more.
