Sunday can’t come soon enough
The Warriors’ GM is taking a neutral approach with the possibility of re-signing the Dubs’ prized free agents.
Warriors’ general manager Bob Myers wasn’t going to escape talking about it — draft picks be damned.
On Monday afternoon, in an event that was supposed to be all about the introduction of Jordan Poole, Alen Smailagic, and Eric Paschall to ‘Dub Nation,’ the media in attendance had to ask about the pending free agency decisions of Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson.
During the introductory presser, Myers was asked if he would meet with Durant and Thompson to discuss their respective futures with the Warriors. Myers confirmed that he was going to meet with the duo sometime during the week.
As far as gauging his optimism regarding their decisions, Myers offered only a shrug and a “we’ll see” approach.
For Myers, setting up advanced meetings and being cautiously optimistic about Durant and Thompson re-signing is all he could do. Durant doesn’t want an elaborate presentation nor does he want recruiting tactics. He knows what this organization is about and is expected to, for better or worse, choose accordingly.
Thompson, on the other hand, is expected to agree to a deal as long as he receives the Warriors’ offer of five-years $190 million. However, according to ESPN’s Zach Lowe and Adrian Wojnarowski, the Warriors have yet to offer Thompson the max. Now that doesn’t mean that the Warriors won’t offer him the max that he’s asking for, but that doesn’t stop the rumors and speculation.

On a free agency special on ESPN, Wojnaroski speculated that Thompson would be open to talking to the Clippers if the Warriors didn’t offer the max.
“But the one team that I think—my information is— he would be very open to going and sit down with is the Clippers,” Wojnaroski said. “If they have a chance to be able to sell Kawhi Leonard on a partnership with Klay Thompson, that’s an appealing sell for any free agent.”
While two sources speculated on ESPN, Andre Iguodala appeared on Hot 97’s The Breakfast Club in the midst of promoting a book and said that Thompson and Durant are expected to stay.
Sunday can’t get here soon enough.
