How to fill out the roster ?
Let's say Pelinka gets a third max player, and Lakers can only sign cheap contracts to fill out the roster.
There's Lebron, AD, Kuz. THT as an intriguing prospect. A few undrafted guys like Norvell, Holman, Caroline... and I guess a few of them to make the full roster.
But they also need veterans. The frontcourt already has AD, Kuz, and I'll count Lebron because he should be playing some SF. Let's add McGee (Dedmon if he's ok with vet min) and Holman, it gives you choices.
Wings : I'll count Lebron, Kuz, and 3rd max guy (if JB), THT, let's add Norvell, Korver, a MLE with Bullock/Curry, or why not KCP, he's been overpayed for two years, time to give back.
At the point, I would sign DRose, I liked him last season. If the MLE isn't spent on an SG, I'd try Beverley or Collison. There are plenty of options, and I expect Pelinka to follow closely what's gonna happen in the buyout market.
Let's say, theoretically, they sign Butler. I could imagine the following roster :
PG : Beverley or Collison (MLE), DRose, Caruso
SG : Butler, Korver, THT, Norvell
SF : Lebron, THT, Kuz
PF : AD, Kuz, Lebron, Holman
C : McGee (Dedmon if VM), AD, Holman
That's a 12-man roster so there are still spots to fill. I don't know if it's a real possibility (first obstacle being lack of cap space), but it's not too shabby imo.
A Beverley/Butler/Lebron/AD/McGee starting lineup would be really, really good, and really strong defensively.
Shooting unit with Beverley or Rose (if his 3pt shooting stays the same), Korver, Lebron to dish out assists, Kuz, Holman.
It won't happen, but I don't think that's too far out there so I can keep dreaming a little.
With no max, I still think they should sign Korver (if cut) and McGee first, get Beverley and one or two solid shooters for the 24 million.
