Siena basketball trying to thaw shooting touch
While that was an extreme, it continued a spell of cold shooting that has affected Siena even while winning seven of its past nine games. It's a flaw the Saints (13-3 overall, 8-5 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) will try to correct when they face Quinnipiac on Sunday afternoon at Times Union Center.
"I think we just keep coaching them confidently and putting them in the right position,'' Christian said. "In the NBA, guys routinely go on 10-game slumps shooting the ball. And those are the best players in the world. So it's really just about trying to stick with them and let them ride through it, and hopefully you can make enough plays without those shots going in. But we're due to start having these shots go in."
The Saints have made just 40.8 percent from the field and 31.4 percent from 3-point range during the past nine games. In the process, they've dipped to 43.2 percent from the floor and 33.8 percent from beyond the arc for the season.
In MAAC play, Siena is second-to-worst with a .418 field goal percentage and seventh from 3-point distance at .348.
