[Women's Basketball] Ferguson scores career high, Lady Cavs fall to Rams

Bluefield, Va. – The Lady Cavs had a tough outing in Bluefield Saturday afternoon, falling to the Rams 72-49. The Appalachian Athletic Conference defeat drops Montreat to 10-13 (11-15 overall) with the conference tournament quickly approaching.

Bluefield started the game on a 9-0 run to set the pace of the game, and the Rams were up by as much as 13 points midway through the second frame. The Lady Cavs put up a 9-0 run of their own to cut their deficit to only four, but a pair of late buckets sent the Rams into the half with an eight point advantage.

The third quarter opened up on a back and forth run until Montreat went cold after a bucket from Darah DeWalt at 5:07 for the remainder of the period. Bluefield scored the last 12 consecutive points in the frame to take a 19 point lead entering the fourth, and Montreat could not recover.

Freshman Rikkai Ferguson stepped up with a career-high 17 points to lead her team in scoring from the bench. She also pulled down four rebounds on the day.

Jessyka Leak and Arianna Williams each posted eight points while Jala Daniels led defensively with six boards.

Meg Rhoney had seven points and three assists.

Up Next: The Lady Cavs enter their last week of the regular season by hosting the Columbia Koalas on Tuesday for a 5:30pm tip.
