Warriors Wonder: Curry and Cousins reveal scary 1-2 punch vs Pacers

0 9

For the first time in many years, the Warriors have an elite point guard and center at the same time. It ain’t safe, it ain’t safe

The Golden State Warriors 132-100 victory over the Victor Oladpio-less Indiana Pacers had a predictable outcome. The champs are activating what Steph Curry referred to as “playoff mentality” and are on a monster 11 game win streak, while the Pacers are trying to recover emotionally from a horrendous injury to their star player.

Yet I came away from this game shaking with awe, as a man receiving the blessing of a long awaited hope come true. Last night was the first time in a long time as a Warriors fan that I witnessed Golden State unleashing an honest-to-goodness, inside-outside, point guard-center combination to destroy another team.

Stephen Curry and DeMarcus Cousins are the ultimate new age small-big tandem.

Curry shot 10-for-13 from the field, a scintillating 6-of-8 from beyond the arc, and added 6 rebounds and 3 assists. He was raining fire from everywhere on the court, strething the Pacers defense out well beyond their means.

Cousins shot 7-of-12 from the field, drilled a three-pointer of his own, with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. He also made 7-of-9 from the free throw line, muscling his way to the charity stripe. Watching him force his way to the goal against helpless defenders is something I had hoped the likes of Todd Fuller, Erick Dampier, Adonal Foyle, and Festus Ezeli would do on demand.

Finally, the team has a point and a pivot who can use their combined strengths to explore every possible scenario on the basketball court. Whether it’s inside bully ball or raining hellfire from deep, I can go to my grave knowing that the Splash Bros-era Dubs finally figured out how to have both at the same time.
