Chiefs' blunder becomes warning for Siena basketball
When the Saints arrived for practice on Monday morning, Christian showed them a picture of Chiefs linebacker Dee Ford lining up offside late in the fourth quarter of the AFC championship game on Sunday night.
The ensuing penalty wiped out a Kansas City interception with 54 seconds left that could have clinched a victory over the New England Patriots. Instead, the call kept the Patriots' hopes alive, and they won 37-31 in overtime.
"Kansas City led the NFL in penalties,'' Christian noted. "That's the biggest thing I'm talking to our team about: Don't let your lack of self-discipline affect how good we can be. That's a situation that we put on the wall. That's what happened. I mean, Dee Ford, he's a yard off (side). Not even close. So it's just unacceptable to lose a game in that fashion."
The Saints (7-11 overall, 2-3 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) have kept the self-inflicted wounds to a minimum as they enter Thursday's game at Fairfield. They're eighth in the country in fewest turnovers with only 10.2 per game. They've also committed the fourth-fewest number of fouls at 14 per contest.
