A Great Honor For DBR Contributor Barry Jacobs
This speaks volumes about his character and service.
Most of you know Barry Jacobs for his work here or for the News & Observer. Older readers will fondly recall his ACC Fan’s Guide, which for years lovingly and lavishly detailed the upcoming ACC seasons.
He’s had a different gig for a long time though: in his day job, Barry has been an Orange County Commissioner.
Most people who hold political office for 20 years become corrupt and venal. We’re happy to say that that hasn’t happened to him. He’s leaving public service much as he entered it. He’s served honorably and fairly and done many good things for the citizens of Orange County.
As his term drew to a close, Jacobs received a high honor from the state as Governor Roy Cooper awarded him the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.
The state of North Carolina doesn’t award anything higher or better than that. Congratulations to our friend Barry. It’s an honor well deserved.
